Pull the plug on each camcover of the variator solinoid and check for oil in the plug. Blast it with brake and clutch cleaner, clear the code and see if the code comes back.
If so, swap the cam sensors on the rear of each camcover and check to see if the code changes.

Pull the engine cover off and check for the intake Y pipe where it goes into the engine for a split. Very common, fouls on one of the engine cover fixings which I snip off and file down.
I would go for a dirty map sensor of vac leak. A smoke tester is the simplest way to find it.
